Engagement

Esha Deol got Engaged to her boy friend Bharat Takhtani who is a business man on Sunday, February 12, 2012.

The engagement was a private affair. Esha Deol wore a transparent pink and green combination saree. Bangles, dangling jhumkas (earrings), Indian plaited hairstyle and maang tikka (forehead piece) accessorised the traditional look of the dream girl's eldest daughter. Engagement was a simple family affair so everything was not too highly open.

Sangeet ceremony

Esha Deol's wedding celebrations kicked off in grand style Monday (June 24)  night with a star studded sangeet in Mumbai.

Bollywood's glitterati stepped out in their traditional best for the first wedding function of veteran actors Hema Malini and Dharmendra's elder daughter.The programme  began at 8.30 p.m.

Esha Deol's sangeet on Monday,Jun 24 was well attended by B-Town and telly celebrities. Papa Dharmendra made a quiet entry avoiding the press and was there for a short while. Sunny (who was shooting) and Bobby (who was in London) couldn't attend the function.

 Abhay Deol (who is close to Esha) walked in with girl friend Preeti Desai.

Esha's younger sister, Ahana Deol, was festive in a sky blue anarkali.

Bridegroom Bharat Takhtani danced to 'Jumma Chumma' and 'Maa da Ladla'. Hema performed on her number 'Dream Girl' and made the evening more special for her daughter. Esha's friends danced to her songs from 'Dhoom'.

Esha was lovely in an orange Rocky S lehenga and walked hand in hand with her fiance Bharat Takhtani, who was in a blue sherwani.
An excited Esha posed for the waiting photographers and gave them some info about her sangeet. "I have called everybody, friends and family. This would be the wonderful event. I am madly in love with him. Since, I love dancing, we are looking forward for our performances," said the blushing bride-to-be.

Mom Hema, who wore a Shyamal & Bhumika sari for her daughter's sangeet, said : "The function is according to youngsters. I have not planned anything, am just participating in it. This is a happy occasion for me."

Guest list-

High profile guests included Esha's first co-star Zayed Khan, who was there with wife Malaika. Esha made her Bollywood debut with ' Chura Liya Hai Tumney '.

Also seen at the function were Naseeruddin Shah with family, the Sen sisters Riya and Raima, Hema Malini's niece and Roja actress Madhoo with her two daughters, Band Baajaa Baraat actor Ranveer Singh, newlyweds Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh, and Sohail Khan.

Mehendi Ceremony

Esha's mehendi was on Wednesday (June 27).

After the lavish sangeet party at a five star on Monday, lovely bride-to-be Esha Deol had her mehendi ceremony at mother Hema Malini's residence. After the traditional application of mehendi, the party moved to a swanky club in Bandra.  

 Wearing fresh flowers with a bright yellow and green lehenga by Designer Neeta Lulla, the actress showed off her mehendi and her engagement ring as she posed with fiance Bharat Takhtani.  Bharat was festive in a yellow cotton kurta with trousers and Nehru jacket

 
While Hema Malini's yellow and green sari was also by Neeta Lulla, younger sister Ahana was in an orange anarkali.

Wedding Ceremony

Esha and Bharat got married in a south Indian style at the Iskcon temple in Juhu.

The traditional morning wedding took place on Friday (June 29).
Actress Esha Deol, elder daughter of veteran actors Hema Malini and Dharmendra, tied the  knot with her fiance Bharat Takhtani in a traditional south Indian style wedding at Iskcon temple in Mumbai.

The parents of the bride, Hema Malini and Dharmendra, were at the temple entrance to greet new son-in-law Bharat.

 

Wearing a Kanjeevaram saree, Hema and her husband Dharmendra, looking dapper in a suit, welcomed the groom at the temple.


Bharat came to the mandap in a chariot while Esha was carried in a flower- bedecked doli.

Hema and her family members greeted Bharat with an aarti and garlands after which he and Esha exchanged varmalas.

Bride Esha was glowing in a red lehenga made of three Kanjivaram saris and gold jewellery, while Bharat Takhtani looked dapper in white sherwani with zardozi work. The wedding outfits were designed by Neeta Lulla. In fact, Hema and Ahana also donned ensembles by the same designer

The Pheras took place in Padma Palace ( a replica of the spot where Krishna and Rukmini had got married in Dwarka).The mandap was decorated with garlands of orange marigolds and pink lotuses. Krishna hymns and chants  and a live performance by South Indian women was heard during the ceremony.

Dharmendra gave away Esha away during kanyadanam after which Bharat tied the mangalsutra. Abhay performed the laaja homam, when the bride gives an offering of puffed rice to the fire and her brother helps her in this ritual.

* Govinda, the restaurant run by ISKCON Temple dished out a spread of their mouth-watering vegetarian delicacies. The menu for the breakfast included idli, mini-uttapams and pongal. There was a chaat counter and the lunch spread was North Indian. The desserts included Malai Kulfi and Ras Malai, there were also sweets from Shree Gangour, who are most popular among Bollywood superstars.


* Guests were given a beautifully made silk batwa containing coconut and beetle leaves (the traditional give-away at auspicious occasions in South India), sandal wood incense sticks and wedding savories & sweets like Adirsam (made of jaggery), Mysore Pak and Murku prepared by A.S. Rajashekar, a Mumbai caterer popular for South Indian catering. The guests also received a booklet titled ‘Make your Home a Temple: Living a Divine Married Life’ specially penned by His Holiness Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji to celebrate the divine union of Esha & Bharat.

Veteran actor Manoj Kumar, who made a rare public appearance for the occasion, told the waiting reporters: " I have come here as a family friend and to bless the couple."

From Nita Ambani and Rani Mukerji to Manoj Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan, there were quite a few celebrities that graced Esha Deol’s wedding ceremony.

Other guests included Vinod Khanna, Vyjayanthimala, Ramesh Sippy, Fardeen Khan, Poonam Sinha, Madhoo, Anu Malik, designer Neeta Lulla and her daughter Nishka.

Looking radiant in a Kanjivaram sari, Hema Malini said: "The marriage went very good, there is a slight change in the rituals otherwise all Hindu rituals are the same. She found the right person and is going to be in Mumbai only so I am happy.  We have completed the wedding on time."

The bidaai took place in the evening from Hema's Juhu Bungalow.

Veteran actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini, the ecstatic parents of the just married Esha Deol, hosted a grand reception for their daughter and new son-in-law at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on Saturday night.

Esha Deol and Bharat Takhtani had their wedding reception in Mumbai today which saw a huge number of Bollywood stars turn up to congratulate the newly weds.

The bride was glowing in a pink and silver lehenga while husband Bharat Takhtani was dapper in a black suit.

 

While the bride and the groom looked radiant in their outfits, parents Hema Malini and Dharmendra were also not far behind and looked great together.

Esha wore a pink Rocky S. lehenga and we have to say that she looked absolutely gorgeous. The colour looked great or her.

Hema Malini and younger daughter Ahana Deol wore Neeta Lulla outfits for the reception.

Providing visual respite from gold, kanjeevaram and marigold flowers, newlyweds Bharat and Esha Deol Takhtani decided to go European at their wedding reception. The duo opted for an all white decor, choosing to create an easy ambience — and that translated into the use of crystals and over one lakh white roses.

Inside the main venue, a separate passageway was made to take VIP guests straight to the stage. While Dharmendra dutifully carried out his responsibilities as the father of the bride, guests just couldn't resist shaking hands with him, and posing for pictures with him!

Esha Deol's reception was attended by many generations of Bollywood.The ceremony saw the presence of creme da la creme from filmdom as well as politicians and businessmen.

* Raj Thakre with wife, Sri L.K.Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Amar Singh, Suresh Kalmadi, Sahara's chief Subroto Roy, industrialist Mukesh Ambani's wife Neeta Ambani and Sunil Rane of Atharva Group of Institutes, who is a family friend, were among the other high profile guests. Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha's wife, Poonam Sinha, also came with her twin sons - Luv and Kush.

* Amitabh Bachchan came with son Abhishek and said: "My best wishes to the married couple."

 

* Legendary actress Vyjayanthimala, who attended the wedding, looked evergreen in a purple and orange traditional sari and said that she would have "not missed the occasion".


"Hema is like a younger sister. The wedding has been done in a fabulous way. It is totally traditional. I am here only for Hema, we are like family," she added.
